Just before the onset of the holidays, bulldozers entered the estate's iron gates and began clearing the path for construction. In the new year, the sledgehammers are in full-force, bringing down walls, tiles, and preparing the canvas for a full redesign.
In an effort to 'modernize' the living spaces, we are opening up the walls of the Great Room to allow the interior to flow more fluidly, truly expanding its 'greatness.'
Above, the wall to be removed; Below, Great Room and Corridors post removal.
The infamous bathroom is also undergoing its demolition. The poor bidet still lingers, the last remnant and reminder of our bout with the seller.
Similarly, the kitchen - needing a full redesign - has suffered the blows of a hammer. The fragile marble sink remains, as we seek to restore it to its former glory.
The space perhaps needing the most expanding was the attic and upper suite, whose previous labyrinthine walls and rooms made it a compressed space. Here, we will celebrate the view outward from the verandah (beyond those double doors).
Finally, the new driveway/entrance is being cleared to make way for construction vehicles and garden pathways.
As construction progresses, I'll update the Chronicles accordingly. Stay tuned for a sneak peek at the design boards and furniture procurement going on behind the scenes.
